Help For Uncertain Times

Can we talk about the last 2 years, y’all?  Seriously, it’s been hard. With the work we do at Rock Solid, I’ve been in a curious place to see glimpses into lives and businesses of people far and wide and I’ve also had the occasional opportunity to see a bit deeper into the same. I’ve spoken to so many who have endured shutdowns, incredible loss, confusion, division, pain, and disillusionment. I’ve witnessed people push through barricades to pursue their passions.  I’ve been able to offer encouragement to those who think the mountains are just too big. I’ve been privy to the greatest strengths and bitterest of weaknesses that people carry.

It’s not as if I’m talking of days gone by or looking back. Tough times aren’t over.  We’re still in the thick of things. Amidst pleas to bring back “normal”, I see others shouting about the “new normal” and I think we’re all left quietly wondering inside what tomorrow will bring.

So, I’d love to sit a minute with you while we look at a few strategies of how we move forward into uncertainty. We get so comfortable just putting on “the smile” when we get ready for work each day … wrapping determination and dogged drive around our souls, vowing to get through yet another day, even if it kills us. If you look closely, I think you’ll see signs of hope cracking just a bit in the eyes of those you meet each day. Weariness is fighting for position even in the fiercest hearts and nobody is talking about it.

Many are complaining about it. That’s not the “talking about it” we’re going to do here … that’s the easy way out and doesn’t help anyone. We can all see the problems - let’s be the helpers, the solution-oriented ones. Let’s offer encouragement and strategy and empowerment to make it through!

3 Tips For Uncertain Times

  1. Find your footing. What is stable?  What is sure?  Stand on that!  Step away, look away, be intentional about ditching those things that cause increased anxiety, confusion, strife. This doesn’t always mean choosing easy or rejecting hard. It means using wisdom and evaluating priorities.

  2. Rest. Don’t stop. Just rest. Say no to things. Choose the best before you say yes. 3-day test for uncertainty.

  3. Stop chasing money. If you chase money, you just might catch it and if you do, it’ll be far less fulfilling than you’d ever believe. These are the days we must chase servanthood. We must stop and pivot and see what’s been in front of us all along. How can we help others find success or relief?  How can we help others in their day-to-day?  How can we take what we know and those things we’re good at and add value to somebody else’s life??
